Data collection
Providing this website requires the processing of personal data, such as your IP address. This processing is necessary in order to retrieve the content displayed on this website (including its functions) and for reasons of IT security measures.
The processing of your personal data for the provision of this website is carried out on the basis of our overriding legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). In order to provide this website, it is technically necessary for us to process certain personal data (e.g. the IP address).
As part of the required balancing of interests, we have weighed your interest in confidentiality against our interests in providing this website. Your interest in confidentiality is outweighed in each case. Otherwise, we would not be able to provide you with this website.
We use service providers to provide our website. For this purpose, we transmit personal data to these service providers. These service providers are contractually obliged by us to exercise the same care in handling personal data as we do ourselves.
Visitor statistics
We keep statistics on the use of our websites. For each page view and each start of a download, we use your IP address and the name of your browser for a short moment. From these we calculate a one-way daily value to tell the visitors of one day apart, and we find the country of the request. We find the country with a table on our own server. If you come to us through a link on a different website, we count the name of that website (for example a search engine), not the full address.
The IP address and the daily value are not stored for these statistics. The daily value changes each day, so we cannot recognise you over more than one day. We store only numbers for each day, country, and referring website, for example the number of visitors and of downloads. We set no cookies for this, we do not access your device, and we give no data to third parties.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in statistics that use as little data as possible and in the detection of automated requests. You can object to this processing. Because these statistics store no data on individual persons, no data exists after the request that we could relate to you or delete.
Student discount
When you request the student discount, we process your email address, your message with the information and links in it, the language of the website, and the time of the request and of the confirmation. We send you an email with a confirmation link to check that the address is yours. A person from our team then reads your information and decides on the discount. You get the decision, and the discount code if there is one, by email.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps at your request before a contract) and our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in recognising repeated requests. We keep the request and the decision for three years, so that we can see if an address already got a discount. We delete requests that are not confirmed through the link after seven days. To send these emails we use the same service provider as for our other emails.
Mailing list
On our website you can enter your email address to join our mailing list and receive news and announcements about our software. For this purpose we process your email address, the language setting used at the time of signup, and the time of signup.
The legal basis for this processing is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Providing your email address is voluntary; without it we cannot send you any news.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. The unsubscribe link at the end of every email is sufficient, as is an informal message to contact@dihedron.net. The lawfulness of the processing carried out up to the withdrawal remains unaffected. Following your withdrawal we delete your email address from the mailing list.
These emails are sent via Resend, Inc. as a processor; see the section “Data transfers to third countries”.
Software update check
On startup, the “Blick” and “Zeiger” programs each make a single request to our server (blickeditor.com) to check whether a newer version is available. For technical reasons this transmits your IP address, without which no response could be delivered. The IP address is processed solely to answer the request and is neither stored nor linked to any other data. The software transmits no further data, in particular no usage data and no information about your system.
The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in being able to inform you about available updates, in particular security updates.
Delivery of downloads
We deliver the installation files of Blick and Zeiger through the content delivery network (CDN) of BunnyWay d.o.o., Dunajska cesta 165, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia (“Bunny”). When you start a download, our server counts the retrieval of the file and redirects your browser to Bunny. The count contains no information about you. The retrieval also goes into our visitor statistics. Bunny then transmits the file from the server closest to your location.
For technical reasons, Bunny processes your IP address and the details of your browser’s request, without which no file could be delivered. Bunny keeps logs of the requests for three days. In these logs, the IP address is shortened.
The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in delivering the downloads quickly and reliably. Bunny processes the data as a processor on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR). Bunny is based in the EU and operates servers worldwide. For a download from the EU, a server in the EU usually transmits the file.
Zeiger’s access to the Apple Photos library
On macOS, the “Zeiger” software can show your Photos library if you allow access in System Settings. The photos are shown only locally on your device. Zeiger transmits neither photos nor information about your library to us or to third parties. If photos are stored only in iCloud, macOS downloads them through Apple’s Photos interface; Apple carries out this processing under its own privacy policy. You can withdraw access at any time in System Settings under “Privacy & Security > Photos”.
Embedded YouTube videos
On our home page we embed videos from the YouTube platform. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).
When you visit our website, only a preview image is shown at first. Our server retrieves this preview image and the details of the current video from YouTube itself at regular intervals; no visitor data is transmitted in the process. Loading the page therefore transmits no data to YouTube.
The video is loaded from YouTube only when you click the preview image. YouTube then receives in particular your IP address, the address of our website, and technical information about your browser and device. YouTube may also store or read information in your browser (e.g. cookies or local storage). If you are logged in to a Google account, YouTube can associate the playback with that account.
The legal basis is your consent, which you give by clicking the preview image (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). We do not store this decision; on every page visit the video is loaded only after a new click. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by stopping playback and deleting the information stored by YouTube in your browser settings.
Once the video has loaded, Google processes the data under its own responsibility. Google also processes data in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For more information, see Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Data disclosure
At least some of the data we collect as described above is passed on to processors. They process your data only on our instructions and not for their own purposes (Art. 28, 29 GDPR). These are the following companies, which process data for the purposes stated below:
Data transfers to third countries
At least some of the data we collect as described above may be transferred to third countries. With respect to the USA, the data transfer is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. In this respect, the European Commission certifies, by way of an adequacy decision, a level of data protection comparable to the EEA standard. Beyond that, we do not transfer your personal data to countries outside the EU or the EEA or to international organisations, unless expressly stated otherwise in this privacy notice.
